Bandipora, 17 Oct 2024 – The Kashmiruk Fankaar 2024 festival, organized by 14 Rashtriya Rifles (GARH RIF) and Ali Sports Academy with generous sponsorship from the Indian Army, has left an indelible mark on the valley by celebrating the vibrant cultural, sporting, and ecological spirit of Kashmir. Held over two days at the Sher-e-Kashmir stadium, the event showcased Kashmir’s rich folk traditions, burgeoning sports talent, and dedication to environmental preservation.
Day one kicked off with electrifying volleyball and rugby matches, captivating audiences and providing a platform for local talent to shine. This sporting spectacle not only promoted physical fitness but served as a critical stepping stone for Kashmiri youth to gain national recognition in sports.
On the second day, the focus shifted to a grand musical festival that honored Kashmir’s traditional folk music, drawing crowds of both locals and tourists. The performances celebrated the region’s musical heritage while competitions ensured the preservation of this rich cultural legacy for future generations.
The event also brought a surge in tourism, particularly around Wular Lake, boosting the local economy through increased hospitality, artisanal craft sales, and employment opportunities. Entrepreneurs and local businesses flourished as visitors from across the country flocked to the festival, invigorating various sectors of the region.
Dignitaries from the district administration and security agencies attended the grand finale, underscoring the event’s role in fostering peace, unity, and trust between Kashmir and the rest of India.
Major General Vivek Narang, GOC Kilo Force, addressed the audience during the grand finale. He stated that the gathering serves as an inspiration for the entire Kashmir valley to preserve its cultural heritage and promote the values of ‘Kashmiriyat.’ He emphasized the immense potential of Kashmiri youth, urging that their talents must be nurtured and given proper platforms to express themselves. “Talent should not be hidden; it must be expressed through such platforms,” he added.
The GOC extended his gratitude to all involved and expressed optimism for the continued growth of the local artistic community.
