Bandipora, Feb 12: In a major crackdown against drug trafficking, Bandipora Police on Wednesday attached the immovable property of a notorious drug peddler in Ward No. 5, Sheikh Mohalla Bandipora, under Section 68-F of the NDPS Act, 1985.
The attached property includes a three-storey residential house with attic belonging to Mohd Shafi Sheikh, son of Mohd Shahbaz Sheikh, a resident of Ward No. 5 Sheikh Mohalla Bandipora.
According to police officials, the accused is involved in multiple NDPS cases registered at Police Station Bandipora, including:
- FIR No. 110/2022 under Sections 8/20, 29 of the NDPS Act
- FIR No. 183/2022 under Sections 8/20, 29 of the NDPS Act
During the course of investigation and enquiry conducted by Bandipora Police, the property was identified as illegally acquired and prima facie found to have been raised through illicit trafficking of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances.
Police said the accused had earlier been detained under the PIT-NDPS Act and lodged at Kot Bhalwal Jail, Jammu, and has since been released.
Officials stated that the attachment of property is part of a sustained campaign to dismantle the financial networks of drug peddlers and to curb the menace of narcotics in the district.
The action has been widely appreciated by local residents, who hailed the initiative taken by Bandipora Police in targeting properties allegedly generated through illegal drug trade.
Bandipora Police reiterated its commitment to continue strict action against individuals involved in drug trafficking and to safeguard the youth from the growing threat of narcotics.
