New Delhi, India March 26: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed deep grief over the tragic road accident in Andhra Pradesh’s Markapuram district and approved financial assistance for the victims. The Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) on Thursday announced an ex-gratia of ₹2 lakh each for the next of kin of those who lost their lives and ₹50,000 for the injured.
In a post on X, the PMO stated, “The mishap in Markapuram district, Andhra Pradesh, is tragic. Condolences to those who have lost their loved ones. May the injured recover at the earliest. An ex-gratia of ₹2 lakh from PMNRF will be given to the next of kin of each deceased. The injured will be given ₹50,000.”
Thirteen people were killed and 20 others injured when a private bus collided with a tipper lorry near slab quarries. The bus, operated by Harikrishna Travels, was travelling from Nirmal in Telangana to Nellore when the collision occurred, causing the vehicle to catch fire and burn completely.
Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on Thursday reviewed the situation with district officials and sought details about the medical care being provided to the injured. Police officials informed him that the injured have been shifted to various hospitals for treatment. The Chief Minister has directed authorities to conduct a comprehensive inquiry into the cause of the accident and submit a detailed report.
The tragedy comes a day after a significant fire broke out near the Chief Secretary’s bungalows at Rayapudi in Amaravati. According to police, the fire began in pipes stored by Megha Engineering Company. Firefighters and police personnel deployed three fire engines to bring the flames under control amid heavy smoke.
In another separate incident, three people were killed and five others injured in a collision between two cars on the national highway near Ernagudem in East Godavari district on Sunday, police said.
