Bandipora, March 29: Fresh snowfall has lashed the higher reaches of north Kashmir’s Bandipora district bringing life to a near halt in parts of the Gurez sector. Tulail Valley recorded around 2 inches of snow, while Razdan Top, a key high altitude pass received about 4 inches, officials said.
In light of the worsening weather and forecasts of continued rain and snowfall, authorities have suspended vehicular traffic on the 85-kilometer Bandipora Gurez road as a safety precaution.
Speaking to the media, Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Gurez, Dr. Mukhtar Ahmad, said, “The decision was taken to ensure commuter safety and prevent accidents due to slippery road conditions and reduced visibility.
Traffic on the Bandipora Gurez road will remain suspended until further orders.”The administration has issued an advisory urging residents and travelers to avoid unnecessary travel and strictly follow official directions until the weather improves and the road is declared safe.The fresh snowfall has also triggered a noticeable drop in temperatures across the region.
Local authorities are closely monitoring conditions and are ready to respond to any emergencies arising from the extreme weather.Officials warned that the road, being strategically important, could face further disruptions if snow accumulation continues in the coming days.
