Annapolis, Maryland – January 1, 2025 – In the wake of a tragic attack in New Orleans that left 15 individuals dead, the FBI has revealed its belief that the primary suspect, Shamsud-Din Jabbar, did not act alone. Jabbar, a 42-year-old U.S. citizen, reportedly drove a pickup truck into a crowd on a bustling New Orleans street before exiting the vehicle and opening fire with a weapon. He was fatally shot by police at the scene.
Authorities discovered an Islamic State group flag inside the vehicle Jabbar was driving, alongside two improvised explosive devices located nearby. FBI Assistant Special Agent Alethea Duncan stated that the agency is treating this incident as an “act of terrorism,” and is actively investigating whether Jabbar had accomplices.
In response to the attack, Sikhs of America, a prominent Sikh organization, expressed profound sorrow and outrage. Chairman Jesse Singh and President K. Soni, along with the board of directors, issued a joint statement: “Our hearts are heavy as we mourn the loss of innocent lives and pray for the swift recovery of those injured in this tragic incident.”
The organization condemned the violence, labeling it a direct affront to humanity. “Violence of any kind is unacceptable,” they stated, emphasizing that every individual deserves the right to live in peace and security, regardless of their background or beliefs. They called for the elimination of any ideology that promotes the killing of the innocent.
Sikhs of America urged both the FBI and local law enforcement to ensure that all individuals involved in this act of terror are brought to justice. “Communities thrive when justice prevails,” they noted, calling for swift and decisive action to ensure the safety of all citizens.
During this difficult time, the organization expressed solidarity with the families affected by the tragedy and conveyed thoughts and prayers for them and the nation as a whole. They advocated for unity and resilience against hatred and division.
“We encourage all individuals to join together, support one another, and work toward creating a future where everyone can feel safe and respected in their communities,” the statement concluded. “The strength of our nation lies in its diversity and its ability to unite against hatred and violence.”
