Bandipora, 12 Feb: Displaying exceptional skill and determination, 12-year-old athlete Iqra Rahman, hailing from Wanpora village in the Gurez region of Bandipora district, has clinched a gold medal at the Jammu & Kashmir–level Kudo Championship 2025–26, earning her place in the 2026 National Kudo Championship.
The championship was held from February 2 to 4 at the Bhagwati Nagar Indoor Stadium in Jammu, witnessing participation from athletes across the Union Territory. Iqra’s outstanding performance not only brought glory to her hometown but also added to the sporting pride of Jammu & Kashmir.
Currently residing in Braripora, Bonakoot, Iqra is no stranger to competitive arenas. She has already represented Jammu & Kashmir three times at the national level, participating in events held in Haryana, Delhi, and Maharashtra.For the past three years, she has been training at Majestic Sports Academy under the guidance of coach Rifat Shafi, whose mentorship, coupled with Iqra’s discipline and hard work, has played a pivotal role in her ascent.
Speaking to the media, Iqra expressed deep gratitude to her parents and coach for their unwavering support and encouragement throughout her journey.
Locals and sports enthusiasts across Bandipora have lauded Iqra’s achievement, expressing confidence that she will continue to shine at both the national and international levels, and bring further laurels to Jammu & Kashmir.
