New Delhi, March 23: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to deliver a statement in the Rajya Sabha on Tuesday, outlining India’s assessment of the ongoing West Asia conflict and its implications for the country’s energy and economic security.
The Prime Minister had briefed the Lok Sabha on Monday, describing the situation in West Asia as “worrisome” and highlighting its wide-ranging impact on global markets and daily life worldwide.
Addressing concerns over agriculture, he said India has sufficient food reserves and the government has ensured preparations for the upcoming Kharif season. He added that adequate fertiliser stocks are in place despite import-related uncertainties linked to the conflict.
PM Modi noted that six urea plants have been commissioned in the past decade, enhancing domestic capacity by 76 lakh metric tonnes. With rising temperatures expected to push electricity demand higher, the Prime Minister assured that coal stocks at power plants across the country remain sufficient for the summer season.
PM Modi said the conflict—now in its fourth week—continues to exert severe pressure on the global economy. He emphasised that the international community is urging a swift resolution.
On the energy front, he underlined India’s dependence on supplies transiting through the Strait of Hormuz, noting that the war has made shipping through the route significantly more difficult. He stressed that the government’s priority has been to shield ordinary households from disruptions, including through measures to secure LPG availability and strengthen domestic production.
He further said that uninterrupted supply of petrol and diesel across the country is being maintained through continuous monitoring and intervention.
