New Delhi, India March 25: Defence Minister Rajnath Singh will convene an all-party meeting at 5 PM on Wednesday to deliberate on the rapidly intensifying crisis in West Asia. The meeting will be attended by Home Minister Amit Shah, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, and several other senior ministers.
Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri is scheduled to brief leaders on the latest developments, as the conflict—now in its fourth week—continues to impact global trade and energy supplies.
Tensions in the region escalated sharply following the killing of Iran’s 86-year-old Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, in joint US-Israeli military strikes on February 28. Iran has since launched retaliatory attacks on Israeli and American assets across multiple Gulf nations, further disrupting maritime movement through the crucial Strait of Hormuz and affecting international energy markets.
A day earlier, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, while addressing the Rajya Sabha, called for unified national efforts to navigate the challenges emerging from the West Asia conflict. He stressed the need for peace, dialogue, and coordinated action between the Centre and the states.
Terming the situation a “major test” for India, PM Modi urged all state governments to ensure effective implementation of the PM Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana (PMGKAY), particularly to safeguard vulnerable groups such as the poor, migrant labourers, and daily wage workers who are most likely to face hardships during such crises.
“In times of crisis, the poor, workers, and migrant companions are most affected. It must be ensured that the benefits of PMGKAY reach them on time. Proactive steps should be taken to ease the difficulties of migrant workers wherever they are employed,” the Prime Minister said.
The all-party meeting this evening is expected to outline India’s diplomatic strategy and internal preparedness as geopolitical tensions continue to reshape the security and economic landscape in West Asia.
