Jamnagar, Gujarat, India March 28: Two Indian liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) carriers arrived at the Vadinar Terminal of DPA Kandla in Jamnagar on Saturday, transporting a combined 47,000 metric tonnes of LPG through the strategically sensitive Strait of Hormuz.
The first vessel, MT Jag Vasant, is scheduled to undertake a Ship-to-Ship (STS) transfer at anchorage, according to official sources. Indian Navy warships remained on standby to ensure maritime security and provide support to merchant vessels navigating the region. Additional LPG shipments are expected to follow shortly, the sources added.
At a joint inter-ministerial briefing earlier, Special Secretary in the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, Rajesh Kumar Sinha, said authorities are maintaining constant coordination with all stakeholders while closely monitoring regional developments.
“In the Gulf region, there has been no information in the last 24 hours regarding any incident involving Indian-flagged ships or Indian seafarers. All are safe,” Sinha said. He further noted that 20 Indian-flagged ships, carrying around 540 Indian crew members, are currently operating in the Persian Gulf without any security concerns.
Sinha also highlighted the responsiveness of the Directorate General of Shipping’s 24×7 communication centre, which handled 98 calls and 335 emails in the past 24 hours.
The development comes amid heightened tensions in West Asia, prompting India to reiterate its call for safe and uninterrupted maritime transit through the Strait of Hormuz. During the weekly media briefing, Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal underscored New Delhi’s active engagement with global partners to ensure maritime stability.
“We are closely following all developments in West Asia. We continue to call for ensuring safe and free navigation through the Strait of Hormuz as a matter of priority,” Jaiswal said.
India continues to maintain strict vigilance over regional volatility to safeguard its energy supply chain and broader maritime interests.
